FAQs

What exactly are Whoopie Pies?

Whoopie Pies, also known as Gobs or Big Fat Oreos, are not really pies at all. They are more like two little cakes, although more dense than cake, sandwiched with a marshmallow filling in the middle. Although traditionally a chocolate cake with filling, this treat has been adapted to many other flavors including the ever-popular Pumpkin.

Where did Whoopie Pies originate?

It has been greatly debated as to the exact origin of this delicious treat. Some believe they were first created in Maine, which also claims the whoopie pie as the state dessert.  Others argue that the Amish women in Lancaster County, PA first made these snacks from leftover batter, and upon discovery of a whoopie pie in their lunchbox, the men and children would cry out "whoopie!"

What is the shelf life of a Whoopie Square?

Because we do not use any preservatives or additives, Whoopie Squares should be best be enjoyed within a week of production. They do not need to be refrigerated, but refrigeration does help in preserving their freshness and flavor . If refrigerated, take pies out of the fridge a couple hours prior to serving them.
